Why a hygienic stainless steel gear pump
Food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical lines ask three things of a pump: it must not alter the product, it must be cleaned completely and it must handle fluids that are often thick and delicate. Cast iron and welded or cast stainless parts fail the first two points; centrifugal pumps fail the third, because honey, chocolate or a nut cream will neither prime them nor pass through them without shear.
The FX series answers with a self-priming external gear pump whose body, covers and gears are machined from solid AISI 316 bar, with no porosity and no cast surfaces. It moves a fixed volume per revolution with practically no pulsation, primes from the tank on its own and keeps a constant flow whatever the back pressure. It is the pump behind all our food-grade gear pumps.
FX series models and flow rates
Six sizes cover the flows of most food and cosmetic lines. Flow in l/min at three reference speeds; with an inverter any intermediate value is available and the pump doses volumetrically.
| Model | Displacement cm³/rev | 450 rpm | 950 rpm | 1,450 rpm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FX 20 | 20.5 | 9.2 | 19.4 | 29.7 |
| FX 30 | 30.8 | 13.8 | 29.2 | 44.6 |
| FX 50 | 50.3 | 22.6 | 47.8 | 72.9 |
| FX 70 | 70.6 | 31.7 | 67.0 | 102 |
| FX 120 | 120.8 | 54.4 | 114.8 | 175.3 |
| FX 170 | 170.5 | 76.7 | 161.9 | 247.1 |
For higher flows on chocolate and molasses, the NAV series is available in a food version.
Cleaning: fully dismantlable and CIP
Every FX pump can be completely dismantled for internal cleaning: covers, gears and shafts are removed, washed, inspected and refitted. This is the right approach for small batches, frequent product changes and allergen control, where the operator wants to see the inside of the pump.
For lines that are cleaned in place, the CIP configuration lets the cleaning and rinsing solutions flow through the pump with the product circuit, so the pump stays in the line between batches. Tell us the cleaning agents and temperatures used, so that seals and surface finish are specified accordingly.
The optional jacket heats or cools the pump body: hot water for chocolate, fats and creams that must stay fluid, chilled water for products that must not warm up. Where no hot water is available, electric cartridges with an electronic controller bring the pump to temperature in about two minutes.
Applications of the FX hygienic pumps
- Balsamic vinegar and cooked must in vinegar lofts, racking and transfer without altering the product.
- Olive oil in mills and bottling plants, self-priming from decanters and storage tanks.
- Chocolate and cocoa mass with the heating jacket or cartridge heating.
- Honey, syrups, jams and fruit pulps, transferred gently and dosed into fillers.
- Pistachio and hazelnut creams, spreads, mayonnaise and sauces.
- Milk and dairy products, whey and yoghurt, lard and melted fats, with CIP cleaning.
- Cosmetic creams, lotions, liquid soaps and pharmaceutical preparations.
- Food-grade molasses and other viscous fluids where a hygienic execution is required.
With an inverter the FX doses volumetrically, as the ZV series does in the chemical industry, feeding fillers and recipe lines with no separate metering device.
How to request an FX pump
To size the FX we need the product and its viscosity at the working temperature, the temperature range, the flow in l/min, the discharge pressure, the suction conditions, whether the pump must be heated or cooled, whether CIP is required and which cleaning agents are used, whether the duty is dosing or transfer, and the drive you prefer. For pharmaceutical and cosmetic lines tell us any specific surface finish or certification requirement.

Frequently asked questions
What are FX series hygienic stainless steel pumps made of?
Entirely of AISI 316 stainless steel machined from solid bar, with no cast or welded parts in contact with the product. They are designed for food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
Can the FX pump be cleaned in place?
Yes. The CIP configuration lets cleaning and rinsing solutions circulate through the pump with the product line. The pump can also be completely dismantled for manual cleaning and inspection.
What flow rates do the FX models cover?
From 9.2 l/min with the FX 20 at 450 rpm to 247.1 l/min with the FX 170 at 1,450 rpm. Flow is proportional to speed, so with an inverter the pump also doses volumetrically.
Is a heated or cooled version available?
Yes. An optional jacket heats the pump body with hot water for chocolate, fats and creams, or cools it for products that must not warm up. Electric cartridge heating is also available.
Is the FX pump self-priming?
Yes. Like all our external gear pumps it draws the product from the tank even when the suction line is not full, which matters with honey, creams and other thick food products.
